Gaugengigl"; inscribed in plate lower center: "Copyrighted by Walter Kimball & Co. Boston Mass." A fine impression in fine condition with full margins. Collections: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Library of Congress In "Famous Etchers", S.R. Koehler describes a picture entitled "The Child is the Father of the Man" in the following words: 'a sturdy boy, wearing a medieval costume and standing upon firmly planted feet, is about to draw a long sword and put himself on guard.' While a painting entitled "The Child is the Father of the Man" was exhibited at the Paint and Clay Club's Third Annual Exhibition in 1884, the description also seems to describe "M.D.C.". It is possible that this etching may in fact, be entitled "The Child is the Father of the Man", and may be based on the earlier painting. From Clark, p.14
